Fotografije našeg bliskog univerzuma - Venere, Sunca, Jupitera, Zemlje, Marsa...

Gliptoteka HAZU: 16. srpanj – 28. kolovoz 2008, Medvedgradska ulica 2, Zagreb, u 20 sati.

Fotografije našeg bliskog univerzuma - Venere, Sunca, Jupitera, Zemlje, Marsa, te ostalih planeta i nebeskih tijela našeg sunčanog sastava, – u izvanrednoj izložbi 'BEYOND' autora Michaela Bensona, otvaraju ovom ljetu pogled daleko preko horizonta Zagreba!

Pozivani ste, naročito u društvu vaše djece, da preživite slobodno vrijeme u hladu Gliptoteke u blizini dalekih planeta.

Posebice ste pozvani na OTVORENJE u srijedu, 16. srpnja u 20 sati.

Izložbu je organizirala fotografska agencija IPAK Images.

Fotografije su dio zbirke, objavljene u knjizi 'Beyond - Visions Of The Interplanetary Probes' američkog pisca, filmskog producenta i fotografa Michaela Bensona.

Lunar Transit of the Sun

On February 25, 2007 there was a transit of the Moon across the face of the Sun - but it could not be seen from Earth. This sight was visible only from the STEREO-B spacecraft in its orbit about the sun, trailing behind the Earth. NASA's STEREO mission consists of two spacecraft launched in October, 2006 to study solar storms. The transit started at 1:56 am EST and continued for 12 hours until 1:57 pm EST. STEREO-B was then about 1 million miles from the Earth, 4.4 times farther away from the Moon than we are on Earth. As the result, the Moon appeared 4.4 times smaller than what we are used to. This is still, however, much larger than, say, the planet Venus appeared when it transited the Sun as seen from Earth in 2004. Ultraviolet exposure, STEREO-B, February 25, 2007

View of asteroid 243 Ida

View of asteroid 243 Ida taken about 3-1/2 minutes before the Galileo spacecraft made its closest approach to the asteroid. Ida is the second asteroid ever encountered by a spacecraft. It appears to be about 52 kilometers (32 miles) in length, more than twice as large as Gaspra, the first asteroid observed by Galileo in October 1991. Ida is an irregularly shaped asteroid placed by scientists in the S class (believed to be like stony or stony iron meteorites). It is a member of the Koronis family, presumed fragments left from the breakup of a precursor asteroid in a catastrophic collision. Multi-frame mosaic. Galileo, August 28, 1993

Sunset on the rim of Gusev crater on Mars

Sunset on the rim of Gusev crater on Mars. Because Mars is farther from the Sun than the Earth is, the Sun appears only about two-thirds the size that it appears in a sunset seen from the Earth. The floor of Gusev crater is visible in the distance, and the Sun is setting behind the wall of Gusev some 80 km (50 miles) in the distance. A twilight glow remains visible, but increasingly fainter, for up to two hours before sunrise or after sunset on Mars. This long Martian twilight is caused by sunlight scattered around to the night side of the planet by abundant high altitude dust. Spirit Rover, May 19th, 2005
